Handmade Natural Paper

Handmade natural paper is made by women in southern India, following a traditional process that has existed long before machines took over. Cotton is broken down slowly, shaped into pulp, and formed into sheets one at a time by hand, following the same traditional practice and routine. Nothing in this process is done in a hurry. The paper is made slowly, with each step given the time it requires, made by hands that know when to move and when to stop, trusting the process instead of forcing an outcome. Each sheet is given the time it needs. Because of this, every sheet shows small, natural differences. The texture, the edges, and these variations come from human hands doing the same work, day after day.

I write on this paper myself, and it is the same paper I use for Handwritten Ritual. The paper works well with any kind of ink and keeps the writing intact. This paper can be kept and stored for decades without losing its quality. This paper is for people who are tired of screens and typing. I have seen many people want to return to handwriting and send letters to their loved ones who they care about, in the same traditional way. This paper is meant for handwritten letters, not typing. It turns writing into a ritual, not a task. Writing by hand has helped my own emotional and mental well-being, and this paper is part of that experience. It is one of the best things I have ever discovered in my life.

These papers are made by a small group of women in a village in southern India. They have been doing this work for years, using the same method every day. I get this paper directly from them. I decided to sell it so their work can reach people who care about handwritten letters and traditional ways of living. Most of what comes from selling the paper goes back to these women to support their lives and their craft.

 

MORE ABOUT HANDMADE NATURAL PAPER

The paper has a natural off-white tone and a thickness of 300 GSM. It is available in two sizes, a small size of 3.5 × 2.5 inches (9 x 6.5 CM), and a larger size of 5 × 7 inches (13 x 18 CM). Each paper comes with a matching envelope in the same size. These are the only two sizes available, meant for notes and handwritten letters. Because the paper is natural and handmade, the edges are rough and small color variations can happen, though the overall tone remains consistent. The paper is acid-free, made without chemicals, and fully handmade. Even the glue used for the envelopes is natural and sourced locally in southern India.​
